Painting/Drawing
I classify my paintings as falling into the genre of figurative perceptual realism. Whether working from life or photo references, I’m always seeking out the narrative in the image. Often times this means that a series of paintings are created to continue the exploration of the central idea. My paintings start from the use of traditional methods in oil painting, encaustic (wax) and egg tempera (egg yolk). But it is also very important for me to incorporate contemporary media as well. In my series, “Across and Down” I’m collaging cross word puzzles, photographing them with a Hi-Res digital camera and printing it out at a larger scale on either paper or canvas.
